Have you ever wondered where all the 'Super Soakers' go?
Well....we found them.Songkran is probably one of the most fun festivals you can go to. It is a couple of days where young Thais show their respect to monks by showering the monks hands with water. Young monks are also baptized in the rivers of Thailand. Pictures of deceased monks are also baptized in water. It symbolizes the 'cleansing' of the person. However, over the years the locals have had fun with this festival. They no longer sprinkle each other with water but drench each other. It has in a way been a tension breaker to the hot weather. But if you do not want to get wet then we suggest to barricade yourself in your room. If you want to join in the fun, then Khao San road is one of the best places for locals and tourists to join in. Be warned though, many locals use water pistols and water balloons. It wont be long before they crack open the fire hydrants and hose you down like professional firemen. |
